There are 3 types of leads you will encounter in your business, more specifically 3 stages that people will go through while deciding if they want to do business with you.

Whether we’re talking about your marketing, any promotions, or the content you’re creating for your audience every person that comes across your business will go through these 3 stages.

Cold Leads – A cold lead essentially is someone who has never been exposed to you or your business before. This will be their first time being exposed to you, and this is a critical time because it will determine whether they want to find out more about you, or not care. The best way to capture a cold lead’s attention is by providing valuable content. If they get value from your content then they will want to consume more of it, and this will lead them into the second stage of the lead process.

Warm Leads – A warm lead is someone who has now been exposed to you before, either through your marketing or content creation. Similar to the first stage, the best way to continue engaging a warm lead is by continuing to provide with more value and guiding them to next step in your business marketing, ideally your email list. If you’ve done a good job with providing value then these leads will eventually bite and subscribe to your email list. Some sooner than others, but your mission is to just provide so much value that they won’t be able to resist not subscribing.

HOT Leads – A hot lead now is someone who is on your email list, or even already a customer. They are so engaged with your content that they can’t get enough. They are loyal followers, and they will engage with you any way you need them too. You can market a product or opportunity to them and they want to find out more or get started simply because you recommended it. To them you are a leader and authority in your niche and when they buy they will very likely be repeat customers. However, you have to continue to deliver value with your products to ensure they will continue to want to buy from you.

Your whole mission as a marketer is take your audience through these 3 stages of going from leads to customers. If you understand these stages it will help you align your marketing, and your content for each stage and help guide them naturally. The great thing is that if you simply focus on providing value and creating great content, you will be able to appeal to all 3 stages of the lead process and inevitably turn them into fans and customers.
